Tax-Smart Tzedakah
Retirement offers a unique opportunity to grow your charitable impact while reducing your tax burden.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows individuals age 70½ and older* to make tax-free charitable gifts directly from a traditional IRA.
You may direct up to $111,000 annually* to qualified charities while satisfying all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Although QCDs cannot be contributed to a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), they can support a specific nonprofit organization, unrestricted fund, or endowment.
It’s one of the simplest and most tax-advantaged ways to support the causes you love – today, and for generations to come.
* As of June, 2026. Regulations are subject to change.
How a QCD Works
A Qualified Charitable Distribution is a gift made directly from your IRA to a qualified charity or fund. Your QCD also counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), the annual amount that must be withdrawn from a traditional IRA after age 73.
1. Contact Your IRA Administrator
Request a Qualified Charitable Distribution directly from your traditional IRA.
2. Provide the Recipient Information
Your IRA administrator will need the charity’s legal name, mailing address, and Tax ID.
If giving to Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, provide them with our organization’s name, address, and Tax ID number: 58-1021791.
Be sure to ask your administrator to include your name and the purpose of your gift so it can be properly acknowledged and directed.
3. Your Gift Is Sent Directly to Charity
While a QCD may not be directed to a Donor-Advised Fund, it can go towards a specific nonprofit, unrestricted fund, or endowment – strengthening the causes you love far into the future.
